Boost Your Self-Esteem: Transformative Tools for Positive Change

Navigating through life with low self-esteem is like running a computer with a faulty program.

For years, I battled the repercussions of childhood traumas, including childhood sexual abuse, bullying, and the demoralizing words of teachers who doubted my abilities. These experiences encoded erroneous beliefs into my mind, shaping my self-perception in ways that echoed through my relationships, education, and overall well-being. those experiences left me to live the next several decades with really poor self-esteem and a huge lack of self-belief.

The Shy Code: From Outgoing to Hiding

As a child, I was outgoing and full of life until the first sexual assault happened when I was seven. That event changed the course of my existence. The aftermath transformed me from a lively child to a shy and reserved individual. I didn’t know until much later, but this shift in behavior was my brain's way of safeguarding me from potential harm – people were scary. This protective mechanism, intended to keep me away from people and people away from me, would become a pervasive force shaping my interactions and self-esteem.

Talking vs. Transforming: Therapy's Limitations

Years of therapy and countless hours of talking about my struggles to anyone who would listen led to minimal changes for me.

I can’t tell you how many times I groaned with frustration: “If I know what needs to change, why doesn't it?”  And, “If I know what I want different for myself, why can’t I become it?”

I was so frustrated in the lack of real, solid changes in myself that I pursued degrees in psychology and mental health counseling with the express goal of finding answers and fixing me myself.

Even after becoming a mental health counselor, I was still seeing limitations of traditional therapeutic approaches not just in myself, but in the clients I was serving.  I just couldn’t shake the feeling that talking about the change wasn't enough.

Years prior I had experienced several hypnosis sessions, and while hypnosis allowed suggestions for me to not be bothered by some pretty bad flashbacks, there was still something missing.  During one hypnosis session in particular when I was attempting to go back to a memory, my brain booted me out of hypnosis.  There was a very strong underlying force at work there and I was determined to figure it out.

Cracking the Code: Accessing the Unconscious Mind

What I learned years later was that traditional approaches like talk therapy and hypnosis often fall short in reaching the profound layers of the mind where authentic transformation occurs. While hypnosis accesses this realm more effectively, it lacks a method for individuals to understand why their minds operate as they do. Understanding the "why" is crucial for guiding the mind toward a better path.

The Turning Point in My Self-Esteem Improving Journey

The turning point in my story came when I learned techniques to access the stored memory banks in my mind through change work that combined hypnosis with the sensory channels of inner seeing, inner hearing, and physical sensation.  Those visuals you see in your mind’s eye, the internal dialogue you hear within your mind, and the uncomfortableness you feel in your body.

I learned that these were the messages communicated from the unconscious mind, relaying information about the marching orders my brain had been following and guiding me toward a life of low self-esteem. Even the most negative responses and feelings, I discovered, were my brain's misguided attempts to protect me. However, like a computer infected with a virus, the coding was flawed, hindering my true potential.

By understanding the messages that are coming from the unconscious mind, I finally began to uncover the instructions my brain had been following all my life, which ultimately moved me them towards a life plagued by low self-esteem.   It was refreshing to learn, though, that even what appeared to be negative responses and emotions were recognized as my brain's misguided efforts to protect me.  And this is where the analogy of flawed computer coding comes in – if a computer isn’t programmed as the user wants it to be coded, the computer cannot reach its true potential.

The brain operates in multifaceted ways, managing diverse tasks both consciously and unconsciously. And, real change happens when we leverage both the conscious and unconscious minds collaboratively. This approach not only provides relief but empowers individuals to understand the deeper workings of their minds, paving the way for genuine transformation.
